Mayor Michael DiVirgilio and the South Bay 350 Climate Action Group invite you to join us on Friday, December 11 in the City of Hermosa Beach, the first South Bay beach city to sign the Cool Cities agreement, for this Candlelight Vigil for Survival.

The first week of the Copenhagen Climate Conference will be concluding that day and we will be sending a powerful message to the world leaders gathered there.

Moms, dads, kids, grandchildren, grandparents and all the other members of our community will be out there showing our support for a strong, binding climate agreement in Copenhagen - one that will give the most vulnerable nations and our own children the best chance at survival.

Come on out and join us, bring your family, your friends and your neighbors - and don't forget your handmade signs and candles.

We'll have hot chocolate and good cheer for everyone - and we'll give you a chance to send a video message to President Obama.

Beat Walk Hermosa

E-mail Print PDF

Welcome to our newest feature called "Beat Walk Hermosa". Our contributors will roam the streets of Hermosa Beach and report back with news and impressions.

On our first tour today afternoon between 5 pm  and 6 pm our team walked  down on Pier ave. from PCH to the pier and back. It was a warm and sunny day. The temperature was approx 75 deg. F.
On the lower part of Pier ave. a very artistic looking wall mural/graffiti was being painted inside the Coastal Connection skate shop. At the Pier/Strand several emergency vehicles were parked and first responders were tending to an injured person. The details of the injury are unknown to us but bystanders were heard talking about a person falling of the pier. While continuing on to the Pier the waves seemed very high and while reaching the end of the Pier a police officer in a car drove up the pier to announce that the Pier will be closed for the day. Time of this announcement was approx 5.30 pm. Regular pier closing time is 10 pm !?. Reasons were not mentioned. Heading back on Pier ave. the Blockbuster store on upper Pier ave. had just closed but this time for good. This was the last day of operations before going out of business. The wide selection of movies and the great service will be missed. The Vons grocery shop next to Blockbuster was very busy though. And this concludes our premier "Beat Walk Hermosa".

WaMu Chase(d) Away

E-mail Print PDF

The takeover of of WaMu by Chase Bank is generating more and more complaints and clients are chased away. As this complaint board proves, clients are not happy with the way things are going and the aggressive attitude Chase Bank is showing.  There have been complaints by clients about unauthorized deductions of unannounced fees from their accounts as well. Sometimes amounting to hundreds of dollars.

Another problem is loans. According to Scott K. loan officer at the Manhattan Beach branch, loans are processing very slowly and it sometimes takes up to 12 month. Leaving the client in limbo and unable to refinance or purchase a home.
