Cal/OSHA Investigation in workers death

E-mail Print PDF

In the tragic death of Alejandro Valladares on March 10. 2010 a Cal/OSHA investigation is in progress to determine the cause of the accident and if all necessary safety measures have been taken. If it is decided that these measures had not been in place Valladares employer could face not only stiff fines and penalties by Cal/OSHA but also an additional investigation by the state prosecutor for criminally negligent manslaughter. Criminally negligent manslaughter occurs where there is an omission to act when there is a duty to do so, or a failure to perform a duty owed, which leads to a death. And if the aggravating circumstance of "depraved indifference to human life is found, the charges could even be second degree murder.

May this be a warning to all who put profits over workplace safety! Their Palos Verdes estates can turn into a downtown prison cell in a very short time.

Alejandro Valladares, 29, RIP!

E-mail Print PDF

MyHermosa remembers Alejandro Valladares, 29 who was killed in an accident when he got trapped under sand while working on a construction site on Mar 10. 2010 (See our report).
His friends and coworkers created a small memorial just outside the construction site where his life came to a premature end. Little is known at this time about Alejandro and a brief Google search only revealed that his name and appearance matches  an professional athlete from Ciudad Constitución, Mexico (link). But this match is unconfirmed.

Either way his dreams and aspirations will never come true due to his sudden death. Those who knew him told us that Alejandro was popular with his peers and highly respected by all who worked with him. He was a thoroughly decent individual, hard worker and wanted to improve the life for his family. And he will be missed but not forgotten by everyone who knew him.

Our deepest condolences go to Alejandro Valladares's family and friends.

The construction site he worked on has been temporarily closed for further investigations and we can only hope that this increased public attention will lead to a higher safety awareness and stricter oversight.

Attempted Kidnapping Alert

E-mail Print PDF

There was an attempted kidnapping of a 9 year old girl and an eleven year old boy last week on Friday 02/26/10 at 7:30am in Redondo Beach. The vehicle is described as an old maroon car (or station wagon) with tinted windows where the tinting is bubbling. The paint on the vehicle was so old that it had white spots where paint begins to oxidize. The passenger side door had what looked like a thin strip of wood down the middle of the vehicle (like a door molding).

The man was white 45 to 55 with shoulder length brown and grey stringy hair. He was wearing aviator style black framed sun glasses and had facial hair from not shaving.

Please let everyone you know in the surrounding beach communities to keep their eyes open for this person and vehicle. If you see a vehicle and person matching this description please get the plate number and call 911. If you have any information please contact the Redondo Beach police department detective Jordon 310.379.2477 ext 2308

Talk to your children.  Tell them what to do if someone asks them for a ride.

The eleven year old boy saved his sisters life and knew exactly what to do - he screamed and ran - his sister froze - he went back and grabbed his sister and pulled her away from the vehicle and ran.
